The official account of the expedition was by Borchgrevink under the title of First on the Antarctic Continent in 1901, but Bernacchi had also been busy writing and his account of the expedition was also published in 1901. Bernacchi was the first Australian to play a significant part in Antarctic exploration. His father was from Italy where they owned large estates on the shores of Lake Como.
